Enter Your Personal Email
Use a personal email you can access right away. Avoid shared email accounts.
Create a Strong Password
It needs at least 8 characters, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, and a number or symbol.
Confirm Your Email
Check your email and open the message from hello@id.me. Tap Confirm email.
Hasn’t arrived? Check your Spam or Junk folder.
Choose Your Security Method
This is two-step verification (MFA). You can use a text message, phone call, authenticator app, or passkey. You can change it later in your account.
Verify Your Identity Using the IRS Option
- After creating your account, select IRS to verify your identity.
- Sign in again with your ID.me email and password.
- Authorize ID.me to access your IRS information to continue.
Complete Identity Verification
- Scan your identity document (the front and, if requested, the back).
- Scan your face with a selfie or video: follow the on-screen instructions.
- Review your information, confirm, and continue.
Helpful Tips
- If you don’t see the ID.me email, check your Spam or Junk folder.
- Do not share your password or codes with anyone, including your agent.
- Your agent guides you step by step; you stay in control of your account.
